I went for a walk tonight, it's the third time in a row when all the people I'd usually ask out are busy, some of them with lovers, some going to work, some out of town... but it's only natural, summer holiday is here and everyone wants to spend as much time with the closest people as possible. It would be weird to be otherwise... Anyhow the scorching heat pushed me out for a walk, and the only one that's always up for the task is the all-fat family dog.
Sitting on bench all by yourself gives you the luxury of spending some time with your own thoughts, and the thought tonight was friendship... It came to me that there is a difference between buddies, friends and true friends, I have a few of each and as time passes fewer and fewer remain and they grow closer and closer. I came to realize that a true friend is the one that looks for you even if you don't look for them, I thought of college class-mates who are some of the best friends for a while, for as long as school keeps them in the same place as you, but will any of them call after college is over, would any of them travel half-way around the country just for a cup of coffee with you, would any of them remember your name in ten years time? It happened in gymnasium, again in high-school, and the pattern makes it happen again over and over again. A friend will answer a ringing phone at any hour, and gladly help but a true friend finds the time to call with no reason, wanting nothing more than a stupid conversation about nothing in particular.
